While cruising on Bigelow Blvd (highway 380) at 60mph, I saw a big, deep hole on the road ahead of me. So big and so fast that I couldn't dodge it in time. BANG!! My right front wheel blew up. My poor Jetta limped back to my garage...I could still see hot air sizzling out of my tire into the cold air, creating a light mist. Afterwards I did the most productive thing today: change my tire!

It took me 45min to figure out how to use the VW jack. Because I have a subwoofer in my trunk, getting my spare tire out was a pain. It took me another 45min to get the spare tire out, breaking some wires to my amplifier and two finger nails during the process. Check out the shape of my old wheel.

Now my car is probably the ugliest Jetta on the road. My antenna broke off...I asked the dealer and it will cost $300 to fix it, so screw it...not like I use it anyway. My two side mirrors both have a broken plastic pieces hanging in mid-air. You can hear the sound of them banging against the mirrors if you close the doors hard enough. And the following is just hideous:

Conclusion: Don't ever get a good car in Pittsburgh. I've recently noticed a lot of new holes AND bumps on the road that could be devastating to cars. I really hope I won't be here this summer.

RealNetworks rejected me! :-(

Can Apple save my internship?

Monday, February 24, 2003

Pittsburgh Auto Show wasn't bad at all. So i've decided my next car would be X5 or S4. Just need a job first.

Handsome car? or handsome guy?

Check out the logo i spent two hours making for my Distributed Systems class. Sad how this is the only work I've done so far....and has nothing to do with distributed systems....

Just came back from Technical Internship Expo. Can't believe even big company like IBM doesn't hire int'l students. The guy told me to "apply for IBM in your home country." Other companies said they "prefer" not to hire foreigners.

*sigh*

Apple.........where are you?

LOL!! I just spent one hour on the phone with this executive manager guy from the scouting company. So my "phone interview" became 15 min real interview and 45 min trying to convince me to pay $795 for their service (their service includes pictures, modeling "resume", expsosures...sort of like Monstertrak for modeling). And after the phone call, they realized they wasted 1 whole hour with some poor college student, or rather someone who is unwilling to invest that kind of money. They must be pissed off and put me on the "watch-out-for-this-person" list.

They were pretty good though...gave me myriads of compliments, told me how great I am and how successful I can be, and even offered me a finance plan with 0% interest! Nice try! Maybe if i get an Apple internship then I will consider it.

Have anyone ever tried driving a car up a steep hill in 5 inches of snow? I did that tonite...actually it was more like sliding down the hill backwards. It was definitely an exciting experience. I recommend everyone does it at least once in their lives.

I just came back from yet another interview. But it wasn't a normal interview by some company hiring potential interns for the summer -- it was an "open call" interview, sort of like an introduction of myself to the entertainment industry. Nope, I'm not going to do anything techincal...I've been chosen to be a potential model/actor/singer. Interesting eh? Read on.

So before I've been told by some people that I should do into entertainment industry. Crazy idea I thought...how am I going to get started? Then one day I was sitting at a milk tea shop near my home, and this producer scouted me and asked if I sing well or wanted to sing. I got his card and never got back to him. And again, yesterday there were two ladies that approached me at Barnes&Noble at Waterfront. They said I look really good (or soemthign like that). At first I thought they're looking for a Valentine date for the nite or something...or selling roses or whatever...but no they want me to go tryout to be a model. MODEL?!?!!? So my cold and lonely Valentine's Day became very interesting.

They gave me an invitation to the Open Call today...it's like an info session about how to be a model, how to get exposure, and then introducing myself to them. They took pictures of me, told me to pose (you should have seen my stupid pose since i have no idea how to make cool poses), measured me, etc. Met a guy also from CMU, archi major, junior. They asked "who has visited our website yet?" and only two of us (out of about 25 people) raised our hands...it was quite hilarious. They also asked me on a scale of 1-10, what's my interest in being a model or actor. I said 8. =) Next step would be a phone interview...some talent executive is going to call me on Monday. Then if I do well I get a third face-face-face interview.

The only drawback to this is I need to spend shitloads of money on photographers, designers, stylists and get the best pictures out of myself. AND that doesn't even gaurantee a modeling agency will make me a model...those pictures are just a "resume." We'll see after Monday...if they like me then...we'll see.........

What do you guys think?? Can you picture me being a model? LOL!

Just FYI, there are couple of different modeling tracks.

Apple interview was good. But I'm not too intersted in the GUI stuff that he does + based in Pittsburgh. I'm praying for an answer from Cuppertino!! *pray*

Two more interviews next week, but both of them requires either citizenship or at least permenant residence. Sigh~~

Record: 0-3

See how long we get to keep this losing streak.

I spent $12.50 today eating lunch, alone. what the hell is wrong with me.

So I just had my interview with RealNetworks. Can't believe it was BOTH technical and behavorial...techincal part completely caught me off guard. He asked me to write an algorithm that traverse thru the nodes in a graph...211 stuff. So it wasn't too bad but i soooo spaced out in the beginning and it took me 10min to actually write something super inefficient down. He said it's "pretty close." lol...ok...they said they're only hiring about 20 nationwide, so probably only 1 or 2 from CMU. Sigh...

Just played the WORST basketball game in my life. 0 point, 0 rebound, 1 turnover. Well, everyone on my team had a huge amount of turnovers, which only meant one thing: we sucked ass. Basically I was just running around and tiring myself out. I was even playing injured too...my sore neck hasn't healed so everytime i lift up my head, it just get stuck at that position - so that's my excuse. Final score: 23-34. Oh well...only lost two games =P Our record is now 0-2. YAY!! -_-"

Anyway, on the brighter side of things, I have an interview tomorrow with RealNetowrks. Even though i'm not hopeful at all about any summer internship, but it is still a chance. Well you know my backup plan for the summer already...milk tea lady here i come! =)

Here's the GREATEST Xanga: http://www.xanga.com/home.aspx?user=blo5ish!!

DOH! I just realized all my comments for the archive are gone! Anyone know how to make them reappear? oh well~

By popular demand, here's another entry. Happy New Year!!!!! So today's the first day of my new template. It looks cleaner and simplier than the previous one...I like it. New Year, new beginning! Hope everyone will be successful in whatever they do.

So what have I been up to lately? I'm not even sure myself...I know I went snowboarding for the 3rd weekend in a row...yesterday when I went I almost broke my neck. Now my neck is mad sore...might need to see a doctor if it doesn't go away. What can I say, I snowboard hard. Even went on black diamond twice without hurting myself (my neck happened before it). Maybe I should try skiing next time?!

I did make ¬µÂæÄÑ...it's soooooo delicious. I brought the ¬µÂæ from Taiwan and just added the ingredients...simple and yummy. Beats any jaja noodle you can get here in Pittsburgh. Hmm...I don't konw if Pittsburgh is so bad or am I just too good? Oh yeah, hot pot party was good. I made Willy's °ª¯Å milktea with $6.00 honey I got from Giant Eagle + Dave's super diao bubble pearls. I'd say the milktea was pretty successful because everyone was asking how I made it. hehehehe....secret =) I got the reciepe from a ¸ôÃäÅu lady who sells milktea at ¤½À] (Taipei). I guess I could intern there this summer if i can't get a real internship. Pros: »¶©f¨Ó¶R§Úªº°ª¯Å¥¤¯ù. Cons: No A/C + »¶©f = ¤õ¤W¥[ªo...haha. Ok, I think too much.

Anyway, still deciding where to go for Spring Break. Where does everyone want to go?
